Emma, our Animal Welfare Officer, was first on the scene and rescued three emaciated, flea ridden dogs which had been dumped on a country road taking them home for the night. They were absolutely starving. Information is sought about the van from which they were dumped. Next our volunteer drivers got a stray young mum from Erith and her two kittens to safety plus a very heavily pregnant cat from Gravesend . She arrived just in the nick of time so she could give birth in a warm, clean pen. We also arranged for five rabbits to be rescued from an incredibly bad situation. You can see the state of the tiny cages they were all living in, alone. They had urine burns and very overgrown nails. They are settling in well to their spacious clean new accommodation and have started their their rehab and rehoming journey. We don’t have our own rehoming centre and yet we manage to rescue around 200 animals each year. This costs us over £30,000 each year. As we focus on abused, neglected, sick and injured animals, our vet bill is over £40,000.
